Active learning.

Even for students who haven’t had experience learning physiology, I believe it is possible to introduce and manipulate basic concepts of physiology using data. Borne from the leadership of my colleague Dr. Janet Branchaw1, this course was developed to prioritize effective student learning and engagement. Throughout my three semesters teaching the course, I have taught the cellular physiology, chemical messengers and endocrine, nervous, muscle, cardiovascular, respiratory, renal, and GI units.

Below are a few examples of active learning workshop activities that my colleagues and I use in our human physiology course:

1Dr. Branchaw is the Director of WISCIENCE and an Associate Professor in the Department of Kinesiology at the University of Wisconsin.
